ROBIN BANK

During the school year, my class and I went to an excursion organized by"Cine Fórum" which turned out to be quite inspiring. We watched a documentary called "Robin Bank," which told the story of Enric Duran, an activist from Catalonia during the 2008 financial crisis.

Duran took on the financial system, conducting loan that stole millions from banks without any intention of paying them back. Although, he didn’t keep the money, he used it for finance numerous projects and social movements. This earned him the nickname 'Robin Hood of the banks.'

As the documentary progressed, we saw the complexity of Duran's actions. He aimed to challenge the system and promote alternative economic models. Despite the controversy, his story started debates among our group with my class and other classes who attended, encouraging us to think about our own roles in shaping the world.

Duran's story reminded us of the power of individuals to spark change, even in the face of challenges. His unwavering commitment to his beliefs inspired us to question our own beliefs and consider how we can make a difference.

Leaving the theater, Duran's message persisted. Our trip to Cine Forum went beyond the usual excursions, leaving a lasting impression on our minds and turning on a passion for activism within us. Enric Duran's story serves as a reminder that ordinary people have the power to challenge the system and create meaningful change.

Motivated by the impact of the excursion, my classmates and I decided to organize a similar event in collaboration with a sociocultural association. On February 22nd, we screened the film ‘La mano invisible’ and invited a speaker to discuss the topic of labor precarity, which was the central theme of the movie.
